Informed at the entrance
Swiss data protection law requires that you inform people about video surveillance, including who is responsible and how to reach them. The Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) recommends a clearly visible sign for this. On a car park that means: the sign stands where people drive or walk in, easy to read from the car as well.
What you adjust
- the sentence about the area, such as "This underground garage is under video surveillance."
- name of the company, management or person responsible
- address, email or phone for questions and access requests
Where it goes
- at the entrance to customer car parks
- at the gate of an underground garage
- at the pedestrian access
Good to know
For shared areas such as a garage, the FDPIC writes that everyone using the area must be consulted in advance. More on this in our guide to video surveillance. Free-standing, the sign goes on a post, which you choose with the accessories. Together with the "Reserved parking" sign with logo it counts towards the combination discount, from three signs in the same material.
Frequently asked questions
Does the sign have to say who is filming?
People should be able to see that they are filmed and whom to contact. With name and contact on the sign, that question is answered on the spot. What applies in your case is on the FDPIC page "Video Surveillance by Private Individuals".
Is the sign enough on its own?
The sign informs, nothing more. What the camera may film and how long recordings are kept is a separate question. Our guide sums up the rules; if in doubt, ask a specialist.
Can I change every line?
Yes. You adjust every line of text in the editor, and the preview shows right away how the sign will be printed.
What sets the three styles apart?
Clear is white with dark lettering, Line is violet with white lettering, Bracket is white with violet brackets. The text stays the same, you pick what suits your look.
