Where everyone looks
Swiss data protection law requires that you inform people about video surveillance, including who is responsible and how to reach them. The Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) recommends a clearly visible sign for this. On the glass door people see the notice at eye level, right as they walk in.
What you adjust
- the sentence about the area, such as "This practice is under video surveillance."
- name of the business or the person responsible
- address, email or phone for questions and access requests
Film or sign?
The default is self-adhesive film without a backing board: it sticks to smooth glass and can be peeled off later. For a wall, choose the sign under version, or go straight to the "This shop is under video surveillance" sign.
Good to know
The opening hours as film fit right beside it, and from three signs in the same material you get the combination discount. What the law says about the camera is summed up in our guide to video surveillance.
Frequently asked questions
Does the sign have to say who is filming?
People should be able to see that they are filmed and whom to contact. With name and contact on the sign, that question is answered on the spot. What applies in your case is on the FDPIC page "Video Surveillance by Private Individuals".
Is the sign enough on its own?
The sign informs, nothing more. What the camera may film and how long recordings are kept is a separate question. Our guide sums up the rules; if in doubt, ask a specialist.
Can I change every line?
Yes. You adjust every line of text in the editor, and the preview shows right away how the sign will be printed.
What sets the three styles apart?
Clear is white with dark lettering, Line is violet with white lettering, Bracket is white with violet brackets. The text stays the same, you pick what suits your look.
