The red ring is Switzerland's best-known road signal: nobody drives in here. Below it, the sign says why: building site, no unauthorised entry. Suppliers, passers-by and curious neighbours understand at the entrance that work is going on behind the fence.

Good to know
On private building land the sign is a notice of the client, not an official traffic order; a closure on a public road is ordered by the municipality.
